Williams Park Pool now open in Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A new place to splash and cool down in East Tampa opened Tuesday morning. City mayor Bob Buckhorn along with community leaders cut the ceremonial ribbon, re-opening the renovated Williams Park Pool.

"The re-opening of Williams Park Pool is going to be a great day for the entire East Tampa community," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "We have made the needed renovations, and it will now be a fun, safe place for the community to enjoy."

The repaired pool, located at 4362 East Osborne St. will open for visitors after the health inspection Tuesday and will stay open till September 30.

It took crews a little over six months to repair the pool shell, replace the deck and equipment. The city picked up the tab for a total of $1.3 million.

The pool closed in 2009 due to health and safety concerns. The construction work on it began this January.
