AVERY COUNTY, NC (WJHL) -

One week ago the Bailey family lost their home in the massive landslide that wiped out both lanes of Highway 194 near Newland, North Carolina.

The family of five is now living in a friend's trailer and is still trying to cope with what happened that night, especially the children who no longer have their own beds to sleep in, their favorite blankies, or their beloved horses.

"One was named Princess and one was named Bob," said 5 year old Emma Bailey, who thinks her 3 miniature horses, Princess, Bob and Sass are missing.  "They ran away," said Emma.

Her father Robbie knows different.  "We looked and found no signs of them," said Robbie Bailey.

Robbie says it's hard to hear Emma talk about how much she misses her horses.  "It's just really depressing because they are things you can't really replace," said Robbie.

"I love horsies, I pet them and combed them," said Emma.

However that's not all Emma misses.  "She said she wishes her home wasn't broken," said Robbie.  "It had my new blankies and my new pillows in it," said Emma.

Three things that did survive and are helping Emma cope: her pet goat Ginger, her puppies, and thankfully she still has her family.

The Bailey's didn't have insurance.  Again, for now they're staying in a friend's trailer in Elk Park.  Red Cross and a group called Volunteer Avery have helped provide food and clothing for the family.
