Scott Greenberg came out of isolation at the Pinellas County jail long enough to hear the new charge against him.
He's accused of killing his fellow jail inmate, Kelly Harding, by choking him and stuffing toilet paper down his throat early Sunday morning.
"It didn't surprise me at all, he's a murderer," said Pamela Frasard. Greenberg was in jail awaiting trial, accused of killing Frasard's daughter, 26 year old Jennifer Zale.
Last August police found Jennifer's body at the Kenwood Inn hotel in St. Petersburg. Investigators say she had been beaten, strangled, and choked with toilet paper.
Greenberg tried to claim she died during consensual sex, but was charged with second degree murder.
Frasard never believed Greenberg's claim. She said Jennifer was naive and had the mental capacity of a 16 year old.
"My daughter was beaten so badly, they wouldn't let us see her body it was that bad, so terrible. I have no mercy for him," said Frasard.
In this latest case, Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri believes the two men didn't even know each other.
"What Greenberg said to someone is, 'I'm in here for 2nd degree murder and I don't want to do life. I want to go to death row'," said Gualtieri.
Both men were sharing a cell in protective custody because of a history of bad behavior in jail. Harding died 8 minutes after deputies checked the cell.
Greenberg will remain in isolation while the sheriff's office completes its investigation.
