Sarasota restaurant manager dies after beating

Posted: Updated:
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The manager of "New Dynasty Chinese Buffet" died Friday night, days after he was beaten near his own business.

Andrew Tian was working July 14 when witnesses said he chased three men who didn't pay for their meals. He chased them through the parking lot and into an adjacent business where co-workers found him severely wounded.

He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Hospital employees said he died from his injuries there Friday night.

"I still cannot believe someone got killed over $30…that just breaks my heart," Yang Lu, the restaurant employee, said.

Lu said Tian had a son who attends the University of Florida. He said the employees and Tian's family are taking the news hard. Monday morning, customers walked in, consoled employees and even gave little gifts in tribute of Tian.

"[The suspects] have to get arrested, because if they don't get arrested, there's more victim[s]," Lu said.

Sarasota deputies hope some distinctive features will help them find the three men. They're Hispanic, in their 20's with short hair. One has a pierced lip and eyebrow; another has a rosary tattoo on his wrist and hand.

A reward is being offered for information leading to their capture. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers.
