RALEIGH, N.C. -

Dog rescue organizations are promoting an adoption event in Wake County for dark-coated dogs.

Bully Besties of North Carolina, along with Merit Pit Bull Rescue and Southern Belle Pit Bull Rescues, are bringing dogs available for adoption to the Woof Gang Bakery on New Falls of Neuse Road.

The event runs from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday.

Dogs from the Wake County Animal Center and The Fort also will be at the event, which is called "Take a Walk on the Dark Side."

Cat Renner is one of the founders of Bully Besties, a nonprofit dog rescue group. She says dark-coated dogs stay longer at shelter than lighter-coated dogs.
