CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

Clearwater Police want the public's help to track down a suspect in a cold case murder.

Police say Petra Martin and her 2-year-old son Uriel Martin were brutally stabbed to death in their home on July 19, 2003.

Clearwater Police detective Christopher Lyons asked to be assigned to the case once he became a homicide detective.

"It was an extremely brutal scene. Both victims brutally murdered, brutally stabbed," said Lyons.

Lyons says a bloody fingerprint has helped them identify a suspect in the case.

He is 33 year old Gilberto Juarez-Hernandez.  Detective Lyons believes be may be living in Iowa, near his two brothers.

"Typically, in my experience, people in times of trouble will retreat to where they feel safe, where family is," said Lyons.  "So, I've focused a lot of my energy there, but there might be someone here in Clearwater that knew him, that knows him and might not realize that he's wanted."

John Hemmings lives just across from where the murder happened, and remembers it well.

Hemmings says he had just gone out for groceries on the day the crime was reported.

"Quiet, very normal Saturday afternoon and when I came back, it seemed like every police officer in Clearwater was standing out in front of my house," says Hemmings.

Hemmings says he often saw the young boy playing outside of his home.

"Goodness sakes, for a child to be murdered, that's terrible," Hemmings said.

Police hope someone will call in a tip, and help them bring the suspect to justice.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
