Experimental plane crashes in Washington County

Limestone, TN (WJHL) -

A rough landing sent the pilot of a small plane to the hospital Thursday, after the plane flipped over.

The light weight, experimental plane went down around 4:30 just off Oakland Road in Limestone.

Two people were aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash. The passenger was not injured, but the pilot, identified as 71-year-old James Leroy Braddock, Senior, suffered injuries.

Rescue workers say Braddock was alert when he arrived at a local hospital.

The field where the crash occurred is actually Braddock's own yard, which the passenger told us he uses as a runway and landing strip.

"There's a lot of people in Washington County that have planes that do that," said Sheriff Ed Graybeal, "if they have pasture fields or land big enough, so it's not unusual to see someone landing on their own property."

The passenger also weather was not a factor in the crash, but rather the result of a bouncy landing.

There is no word on what injuries Braddock suffered at this time.
