Toy drive today brings Christmas cheer to Raleigh summer

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Christmas may be months away, and the weather hardly ripe for snow, but a Raleigh organization is looking to crank up the Christmas cheer Thursday with a toy drive for  the Salvation Army.

The Capital City Clauses have hosted the ultra-popular Jingle Ball in December for two decades, and now the organization has added an event in July to raise even more toys. The 2nd annual "Jingle in July" will be held at Raleigh's City Limits Saloon off West Morgan Street.

The event is open to the public.  Admission is either a toy worth at least $10 or a $10 donation. The event will include food trucks and music by Old Habits. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.

Last year, the Jingle in July collected 500 toys as part of the Capital City Clauses' efforts to raise toys for needy children.

WNCN partnered with the Clauses for a Stock the Sled event that collected more than 1,000 toys in December.  That combination helped the Capital City Clauses raise more than 5,500 toys.

WNCN and the Capital City Clauses will hold a Stock the Sled event again this year on Dec. 13. The Jingle Ball is set for Dec. 5 at Marbles Kids Museum.
