The Duke University Medical Center has been ranked the No. 12 hospital in the country, according to a new report by U.S. News and World Report.
U.S. News said it surveyed almost 10,000 specialists and looked at data for 5,000 hospitals to build the rankings.
It put 18 hospitals on an "honor roll" for particularly high ranks across the board, and Duke ranked No. 12 in that list. No other North Carolina hospital made the honor roll.
Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore ranked No. 1 overall.
Duke ranked No. 4 in pulmonology, No. 6 in cardiology and heart surgery and No. 8 in both urology and ophthalmology.
UNC Hospitals ranked No. 22 in ear, nose and throat, No. 43 in cancer and No. 44 in gynecology, by comparison.
