Man arrested after shooting another dead in Tampa on weekend

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The man who police said killed one and pistol-whipped another in Tampa on Saturday, is behind bars. Tampa PD and US Marshals arrested him the day after the shooting.

TPD officers told us, John Fitzgerald Chatman Jr., 19, shot Christian Maffu, 20, in a parking lot at 1600 East 5th Ave. after Chatman and his friends got into a fight with Maffu and two others.

Chatman pistol-whipped Myron Londono-Montilla, 20, and threatened to kill Brandon Hernandez, 19, according to the Tampa police report.

Paramedics took Maffu to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

TPD detectives say they found Chatman using his social media accounts and witness statements. They contacted US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the joined team arrested Chatman on Sunday afternoon at his home in Clearwater.

Chatman is in jail charged with second degree murder among other charges.
