Police search for SUV in Courtney Campbell Causeway crash

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A woman is in critical condition following an early morning accident on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

The westbound lanes of the Causeway were closed for several hours following the crash.

Investigators said a female driver, 41-year old Chantelle Barbose, crashed her 2001 Honda Civic into the Jersey barrier wall shortly before 5am.

Barbose was run over by a black SUV after climbing out one of the car's windows, police said.

Officials say the vehicle did not stop. "It's possible that the driver of the SUV did not know they hit the woman," according to Tampa Police.

The woman was taken to an area hospital where she is in critical condition.

Anyone who may have seen the accident this morning is asked to contact Tampa Police.

Barbose is in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.  Anyone who may have seen the accident this morning is asked to contact Tampa Police.
