Drouin ready to make impact with Lightning as a rookie

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Jonathan Drouin has already put in the work and witnessed results.

At age 18, he helped lead the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to a Memorial Cup victory.  Drouin was also named the Canadian Hockey League player of the year.

But when his name was called in last week's NHL Draft, all that dedication and effort landed him back on square one, albeit at the pinnacle of his sport.

Drouin was the Lightning's top pick in the first round, the third player taken overall.

In 49 games last season with Halifax, Drouin scored 41 goals, assisting on 64 others.

Now his attention turns to making the Lightning roster in September.

After that,  Drouin's dream of feeding Lightning star, Steven Stamkos, one of his "no look" passes can come true.

On Sunday, I sat down with Drouin, shortly after his second workout at the Lightning's prospect camp in Brandon to get his thoughts on being a rookie, how much he's learned so far and how much fun it was dominating the junior level with Halifax teammate, Nathan MacKinnon, the number one pick overall at the NHL Draft.
