Efforts to assist those impacted by the flood in Orange County will continue as the Red Cross shelter at Smith Middle School transitions to an Assistance Center and moves to a new location.

Beginning on Saturday residents displaced by the flood can report to the Assistance Center seven days a week at the University Mall in Chapel Hill. The center will remain open as long as needed.

The center will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m..

The Assistance Center will be staffed by the Red Cross, Orange County Department of Social Services, Orange County Housing, Human Relations and Community Development Department, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), and other community organizations. This effort is supported by the Town of Chapel Hill, Town of Carrboro and Orange County.
