911 dispatchers field dozens of calls about fireworks complaints

Emergency 911 dispatchers around the region work incredibly hard during the 4th of July holiday.

Even with the rain, they're getting hammered with calls from people complaining about neighborhood fireworks displays.

It is illegal to discharge fireworks in cities like Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol.

But, people still do it.

Since June 1st of this year, dispatchers have fielded over 55 calls regarding fireworks being shot off in the city.

Although the calls are down this year, dispatchers are still expecting a busy night.

"It does make it harder, you get hundreds of calls and you have 12 to 15 officers to deal with that and it can clog the system," said Brad Watkins, a supervisor for Washington County 911.
