Lakeland Police sex scandal victim comes forward

Posted: Updated:
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL -

The woman at the center of the sex scandal that rocked the Lakeland Police Department has come forward. She is a long time employee of the department. Sue Eberle and her husband Ed appeared at a news conference at their Palm Harbor attorney's office. Neither said a word, but their attorney, David Linesch, had a lot to say.

"Our investigation reveals an exceptional if not historic case of sexual harassment, coercion, and assault resulting in a work environment that is sexually toxic, and resulted in extreme harm to my clients Sue and Ed Eberle," said Linesch. "Specifically, Sue Eberle was forced to work in an environment rife with sexual innuendo, sexual proposition, sexual advances and unwelcomed sexual assault and battery."

Linesch, today, filed paperwork with state and federal officials calling for a sexual harassment investigation. Linesch stopped short of saying there needs to be major changes at the police department; he did say those responsible for what happened to his client need to be dealt with. "The individuals engaging in the sexual harassment and assault towards her were sworn officers utilizing the status of being a sworn officer and its inherent power," said Linesch. He says if an investigation is not conducted, he will file a formal law suit against the city and the department.

As for Sue and Ed Eberle, Linesch says the couple just wants to move forward and start the healing process. "Ed Eberle is a good man," said Linesch. "And he has committed and sue is committed to work to salvage this marriage...to salvage this family. Two great teenage boys that are victims here as well."
