Car in water near downtown Tampa

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A car ended up in the water near the Ashley Drive bridge in Tampa Wednesday morning, Tampa Police officers told us.

According to a TPD report, the Ford Taurus's occupant is out of the vehicle and safe.

Officers said a woman went over the embankment and into the Hillsborough River near Kennedy Boulevard on purpose.

TPD officers said they have her in custody. They are working on removing the car from the water.
