Tampa drivers can pay for parking online or on phone

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Starting Monday drivers can pay for parking on the streets of Tampa online or on the phone according to city officials.

The CIty of Tampa has contracted with Parkmobile to provide residents and visitors with on-the-go payment options. Drivers can download Parkmobile's app, go on their web site or call the service toll free.

St Petersburg residents have Parkmobile available to them too to pay for parking in the city.

"The fact that Parkmobile is already available in other cities in our area makes it that much more convenient for our customers," said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "This is one more step we are taking to make Tampa a more tech-savvy, accessible city."

To use this service you need to register at www.parkmobile.com and download an app. The registration is free. You can select the app that fits your type of smartphone.

Parking rates differ depending on locations, but a 35 cent convenience fee will apply to every Parkmobile transaction. This fee is waived until September 30 to allow customers get acquainted with the program, city officials told us.
