Tampa man turns himself in on child abuse charges

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Tampa Police have arrested a man they say abused an 8-year-old boy. Investigators from the Florida Department of Children and Families say the boy had injuries that were consistent with being repeatedly struck by a belt and extension cord. Detectives also say the boy was chained to a table with plastic zip ties.

John Miller, 34, turned himself in Friday morning at the Orient Road Jail and was booked on four charges of child abuse, TPD officers told us.

Officers with DCF came to Miller's house on Coral Bay Road last week after a complaint about possible child abuse was phoned in.  DCF representatives found the 8-year-old boy at the house together with three other children. DCF representatives removed the children from the house right away, TPD officers told us.

Miller was a family member who was taking care of the children, according to the police report.
