Wallenda to be honored in Sarasota

Nik Wallenda, the first person to walk across the Grand Canyon on a high wire will be welcomed home by his native Sarasota when he will serve as Honorary Grand Marshal of the Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Festival Parade of Boats on July 5th.

he announcement was made official on Wednesday by the Suncoast Charities for Children.

Wallenda successfully walked across the Little River Gorge near the Grand Canyon without a tether on Sunday night. The stunt was broadcast live worldwide by the Discovery Channel. He also successfully walked across Niagara Falls on February 15, 2012.

Visit Sarasota says the parade will feature over 60 racing teams from around the world and a float from Circus Sarasota to honor Sarasota's circus legacy.

 Wallenda will be joined by Edgar Hansen of Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" who will serve as Grand Marshal.

 The parade will run from U.S. 301 to Gulf stream Avenue and will start at 7:00 p.m.
