TALLAHASSEE, FL -

A Pasco County man has scratched his way to a $500,000 prize.

60-year old David Steimel purchased a Gold Rush Tripler scratch-off game at Jasmine Discount Beverage in Port Richey, according to lottery officials.

After scratching off his ticket, Steimel discovered he had a winning ticket worth a half million dollars.

Gold Rush Tripler is one of more than 60 scratch-off games offered by the Florida Lottery.

Lottery officials said scratch-off games generated more than $495 million for education last year.

Officials said Steimel will celebrate his birthday later this week.
