Trayvon Martin parents ask for prayers before trial begins

Posted: Updated:

In news conference before the first day of the Zimmerman trial, Trayvon Martin's father Tracy Martin and mother Sybrina Fulton asked for prayers for their family.

Tracy Martin said the family holds onto the memories of the teenager.

"As we enter the courtroom today seeking justice for our son, we hold onto his smile, which strengthens us, and we ask that you continue to pray for us."

Appearing with Martin's parents, Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said they believe it is a "simple case."

"There are two important facts in this case," Crump said. "Number one, George Zimmerman was a grown man with a gun and number two, Trayvon Martin was a minor who had no blood on his hands, literally no blood on his hands. There was none of George Zimmerman's DNA found on Trayvon's hands or underneath his fingernails."

Martin's family was allowed to stay in the courtroom, but the judge asked Crump and Zimmerman's family to leave because of rule regarding witnesses in the case.
