'Drain Kitty' rescued from Tampa storm drain

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

After spending days trapped in a Tampa storm drain, a tabby kitten is now ready for a new home.

Someone called Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Saturday morning after hearing a kitten meowing in a drain at the intersection of Florida and Fletcher Avenues.

Fire crews came to the scene, and put traps containing food into the drain, in the hopes of trapping the kitten and lifting it to safety.

On Saturday evening, after hours of waiting, they were successful, and the kitten was freed.

A trapper contacted by Hillsborough County to help with the kitten has taken possession of the feline.  She named him Ryan, after one of the firefighters who saved him.

The trapper plans to find an adoptive home for the kitten.
