Volunteers repair Tampa homes

Posted: Updated:

At least 50 volunteers spent their Saturday morning painting, removing debris and making repairs to the Tampa Heights home of 69-year-old Carrie Williams.

The non-profit group Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay says the home has fallen into disrepair in recent years, but the home was once an emergency shelter for over 500 kids that needed a temporary shelter from 1986-1991.

RTTB says earlier this year, the home's roof had leaks, the plumbing pipes had holes, and the air-conditioning system needed repairing.

According to a press release from RTTB, Williams and her daughter, Cindy, a Navy veteran would not be able to stay in the home without the help of RTTB.

The group also worked on five other homes in Tampa on Saturday, using approximately 250 volunteers.
