Boy killed after jet ski crash on Lake Norman

NEWTON, N.C. -

A 9-year-old boy has died after a jet ski collision on Lake Norman in Catawba County.
    
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission says the accident happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday.
    
Investigators say the boy was the youngest of four children who were riding two jet skis. Authorities say the driver of the second watercraft may not have noticed that the first had slowed down and ran into the back of it.
    
The boy was riding on the back of the lead jet ski. His name has not been released, and authorities say he had been in town visiting his grandparents.
    
Officials say the 15-year-old girl operating the lead jet ski was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
