DURHAM, N.C. -

The people responsible for working side-by-side to protect the city of Durham are taking time off to go head-to-head in a baseball game.

Firefighters and police officers will play their game on Saturday as part of Community Day, a chance for residents to meet and greet those who work daily to help keep local neighborhoods safe and secure.

The event starts at 3 p.m., followed by the baseball game at 5 p.m. at Hillside High School.

Other activities include a moon bounce, food, police and fire vehicles and a chance to meet mascots Sparky and McGruff.

Admission to the game is free, but people planning to attend the game can bring canned food items to support The Salvation Army.

If it rains, Community Day will be held on June 29.
