TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Some very special children got a first-class tour behind the scenes at MacDill Air Force Base on Friday.

The Make A Wish Foundation partnered with the base to allow five families to get up close, and see some of the coolest things MacDill has to offer.

"It's an escape for them, and it's an escape for their families too," said Lisa Andrews, with the Make A Wish Foundation.  "These kids are battling life-threatening medical conditions, so every day is a challenge."

Issac Perez, age 8, called the tour "pretty amazing".  Issac started life with a liver transplant, and still suffers from other complications, but today was a day that he got to live life with no pressure, and no doctors.

In the past, the tour was held in conjunction with the MacDill AirFest, but federal budget cuts canceled the show this year.  However, officials at MacDill and Make A Wish didn't want the tour to stop.

"It was something we keep in the forefront of our minds that we get to take care of these kids just for a day," said Terry Montrose, of MacDill's public affairs department.  "We didn't want that day to go out, [and that] they be affected by something out of their control."

The tour group got to take a look inside the air control tower, tour an aircraft, and see a demonstration from the K-9 team.
