2 dogs euthanized after attacking St. Pete girl

ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

Two dogs that attacked a 4-year-old girl and her father in St. Petersburg were euthanized on Friday.

The attack happened Thursday night at a home in the 3000 block of Yale Street North. The two dogs, a Labrador and pit bull mix, were taken away by Pinellas County Animal Control officers.  Officials tell News Channel 8 that the father gave officials permission to put the dogs down.

The father of the girl, John Faucette, 37, told police he heard a commotion in another room where his daughter was playing with the dogs. When he checked it out, he saw his daughter bleeding from her face. She said one of the dogs had bitten her.

He grabbed his daughter and made his way to the bathroom.  Faucette said the dogs were aggressive trying to attack him.

According to the report, he used a child's paint easel to fend off the dogs to make his way out of the bathroom and the house with his daughter and his wife who had just come home.

Faucette met police officers outside.  The dogs were locked in the house.  Animal Control officers captured them using a pole. Both dogs were very aggressive, growling and barking, according to the police report.

The girl suffered multiple puncture wounds. Paramedics treated her at the scene and took her to All Children's Hospital. Doctors said her injuries are non-life threatening.

Faucette told police he had the dogs since they were pups and they had never showed any aggression towards anyone before.
