Hernando deputies have arrested a man they say tried to set his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend on fire.
It all started early Tuesday morning when 52-year-old Sylvester Kulaga returned to the home he once shared with his girlfriend. Deputies say Kulaga had just gotten out of jail on Wednesday, after midnight, and then Tuesday early in the morning, he came to his ex-girlfriend's house and busted in.
They say Kulaga doused his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend with lighter fluid, then tried to set the pair on fire using a lighter and a spray paint can turned into a flame thrower.
They say the two overpowered Kulaga, pushing him outside.
Deputies say Kulaga then ran off. They tracked him down Wednesday night.
A woman familiar with the area says she's seen suspicious activity.
"You see a lot of traffic. You see people coming and going and stopping and going in for short periods of time and coming out again," said Carol Archambeault.
Sylvester Kulaga, who goes by "Quigley", is facing two counts of attempted murder and battery.
