TRAFFIC ALERT: South Tampa lane closures

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Starting next week, traffic on the Davis Islands bridge and the Bayshore Boulevard ramp will likely become more congested due to intermittent lane closures.

Tampa city officials told us they will start working on the water main under the bridge and by the ramp. They will have to block off the northbound outside lane of the bridge, and the off-ramp to Bayshore Boulevard.

Officials suggest drivers use Plant Avenue as a detour route during these closures. The bridge will remain open at all times.

According to the city officials, the project will last till October 3. The city representatives assured, repair crews will try to minimize the duration of closures and impact on traffic.

Another South Tampa project involves replacements and improvements to the water main and stormwater systems along South Himes Avenue from Palmira to San Luis.

The project will be constructed in two phases.  The first phase will be from Palmira to Bay to Bay, and the second extends from Bay to Bay to San Luis.  During each of these phases, South Himes will be closed to through traffic.

The first phase which will close South Himes from Palmira to Bay to Bay will begin on June 24, 2013 and will be in place until the end of October.
