Authorities spot body off of South Lido Beach

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Authorities report that Sunday morning at about 8:50 a.m., the body of a male was spotted approximately 200 yards off South Lido Beach in the Gulf of Mexico.

Officers believe this is the 19 year old male who was last seen in distress in the water approximately 50 to 75 yards off shore last night (Saturday) at about 6:30 p.m. at South Lido Beach Park in Sarasota.

With the assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Sarasota County Fire, Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife, Air 1 from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office spotted the body.  The Sarasota Police Department's dive team recovered the body.

At this time, next of kin has not been notified therefore an identity of the body was not released.

Saturday, Sarasota law enforcement officials reported at approximately 6:30pm, a 19 year old man was swimming with a friend off the shore of South Lido Beach Park in Sarasota.

The two were approximately 50 to 75 yards off shore, became exhausted and decided to head back to the beach.

The friends became separated.  Officials say, one of the men was last seen struggling in the water by the other who made it to shore.
