Lion cubs arrive at Busch Gardens Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Young lion cubs posed for their first pictures at Busch Gardens Tampa Wednesday morning.  Park officials debuted the cubs, two females and a male, who arrived to the park in May.

The cubs are about 3 months old, the two females are sisters, the male cub is not related to them. They all come from a private zoological facility in South Africa, the park officials told us.

This effort aims at enhancing the sustainability of lions living in managed care in North America and helps the park's breeding program, according to the park's report.

Soon guests will be able to come visit the newbie cubs in the Edge of Africa area of the park.  Once the cubs are large enough, the Busch Gardens animal care team will start introducing them to the lion and hyena habitat of the attraction, park officials told us.

You can find more information and recent updates about the cubs here. You can also log in to Busch Gardens Facebook page to vote for your favorite pair of names for the cubs here.
