Sinkhole forms under Plant City home

Posted: Updated:
PLANT CITY, FL (WFLA) -

A sinkhole has formed under a home on North Country Hills Court in Plant City. The home owner, Tom Manus noticed the hole under his porch on Saturday.

The Plant City Police Department sent an officer to the home, where he observed a 2' hole in diameter under the porch. The officer also said he saw openings within the hole, opening in three directions.

Code enforcement did not respond to the home since it wasn't on city property or on a public right away.

Manus and his family were advised to leave his home until he can have the home inspected by a private contractor.

L.R.E. Ground Services, a sinkhole stabilization and repair service out of Brooksville was at the home on Tuesday night. The company was able to determine that the hole is a sinkhole and they were pouring concrete into the hole in order to stabilize the foundation.

L.R.E. Ground Services is expected to be back at the home on Wednesday morning with ground penetrating radar to determine the depth of the hole.
