Meteorologist Julie Phillips joined Storm Team 8 in June of 2013 as the weekend meteorologist. She joins Storm Team 8 from Abilene, Texas where she was a meteorologist for three years. The quickly changing and wild weather in West Texas gave her an abundance of experience forecasting severe storms and the destructive tornadoes that come along with them.
When the opportunity came to move back to Florida she could not have been more excited because she still has family and many friends there!
Julie attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., where she majored in both meteorology and broadcast Journalism. While in school she was a weather anchor for Newsvision and interned at WPLG and WFOR in Miami. After studying weather in Miami, Julie is really looking forward to tracking less supercell thunderstorms and more tropical weather during Hurricane Season.
Julie is a Chicagoland native, but her father grew up in Seminole. She can remember spending many summer vacations growing up as a kid at Treasure Island and Clearwater Beach. In fact her grandmother and Aunt and Uncle still reside in Seminole, so she is thrilled to be closer to them and of course the beach!
Julie is a huge Miami Hurricanes football fan and can't wait to cheer them on while living closer in the Bay area. She is a proud alum of the Delta Delta Delta sorority which she served as chapter president for a year while in college. Now she enjoys trying new fitness classes at the gym, cooking and baking, traveling and spending a relaxing day at the pool or beach with friends. She lives in Tampa with her precious five year old English Bulldog Rocco.
Julie earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Designation in 2013. She is also a member of the American Meteorological Society.
