Bryan Bennett - WFLA News Channel 8

Bryan Bennett

Bryan Bennett joined the Storm Team 8 Weather Team in May of 2013 as the weekend morning meteorologist and senior weather producer.  Bryan is an Emmy Nominated meteorologist and has been a member of the American Meteorological Society for nearly 15 years.

Bryan has been interested in the weather since his youth growing up just south of Atlanta, GA, watching skies for developing storms.  He began his career in broadcasting in 1998 as an intern at WGCL, Atlanta, GA.  Subsequently, he became WSB-TV's weather producer where he worked for 4 years while also attending Georgia Institute of Technology.  He then accepted an on air meteorologist position at WRBL-TV in Columbus, GA.

To gain further knowledge, Bryan took a position with WSI (Weather Services International), the largest private weather company in the world.  This job allowed him to live in the Tampa Bay area, but required extensive travel as a weather systems trainer for local TV stations all over North America.  In 2010, he became the Chief Meteorologist and Executive Weather Producer for WCBS-TV in New York.  In addition to local weather, this position was responsible for weather broadcast graphics and consistency at over 14 CBS stations across the country.  While in New York, the Tri-State Area experienced record winds, rainfall, temperatures, tornadoes, microbursts, and nor'easters.  Bryan was also honored by ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange in recognition of weather coverage during Hurricane Sandy.

Bryan graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS in Earth and Atmospheric Science with a concentration in Meteorology.  He is currently working on a Master's Degree in Meteorology.

He and his wife are glad to be back in the Tampa Bay area.  With considerably more space (than in NYC), their Great Dane (Desoto) and cat (Fritz) are also pleased to be back.

In his spare time, Bryan enjoys spending time outdoors, kayaking, biking, traveling, watching movies, looking at the planets and stars with his telescope, and relaxing at some of the nicest beaches in the country…right here in the Tampa Bay Area.
