Family offers reward in 8 year old Bay Area cold case

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

What should have been a routine trip down I-4 eight years ago, turned deadly for David Neel.

he was shot by a passing driver, as he traveled to the Strawberry Festival.

Neel's family is now offering a 25 thousand dollar reward for information that leads to his killer.

During a news conference the victim's widow, Debra Neel said, "the whole family got together, this is a family thing, 25 thousand dollars is a lot, but its for David and that's what we are doing, this is for him."

Neel's Ford 19-90 Ford pick up was found at the I-75 and I-4 exit.

He'd run off the road after being shot once in the upper body.

Corporal Dale Bunten with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office said, "we are hoping that someone that was possibly in the car with the shooter or someone that the shooter has bragged to is going to come forward and give us this information."

Investigators say over the years they've received leads from as far as Ohio and West Virginia, but nothing has panned out.

Neel's family knows that finding his killer could be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

His widow said, "it could be, but you gotta try, you always have to try and you gotta keep trying and I will keep trying and our family will keep trying to find that person."

If you have any information in this case, you can call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
