Ireland Nugent's family to get donated cash

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

Ireland Nugent, the toddler who was badly injured in a lawn mower accident two months ago, will get the money donated by the community for her care Tuesday, Trinity Presbyterian Church officials told us. Some of her family questioned the church collecting the money.

But a church spokeswoman says they planned to turn over the cash next week, after re-checking all the paperwork.

After the delay made it to the media, at an emergency meeting Monday night church leaders voted to give the money to the Nugent family on Tuesday.  The church's Interim Associate Pastor says the negative publicity is not what they want for the family.

"I'm sad this had happened. It's not good for the church. It's not good for the Nugent family. And that's my hope that we just move on and we can be to the Nugent family what we need to be. And that is their loving church family that supports them," said Kathie Trautwein. The church says the pastor's mission to Guatemala is another reason for the delay.

Nugent's mother, Nicole, works at Trinity Presbyterian, so any future checks that arrive for her daughter will be given to her in person.
