Car crash in Polk results in death of driver

POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Polk County Sheriff's Traffic deputies are investigating a single-vehicle traffic crash that occurred Saturday which resulted in the death of the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, authorities say, a 2004 silver Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling north on SR 33 when at the intersection with Sugarbush Lane in Polk City when the driver of the truck, 42-year-old Vincent Todd Carmichael of Polk City for unknown reasons lost control of the truck.  It was raining heavily at the time.

Authorities say the truck slid and then rotated across the southbound lanes, and then off the west shoulder where it struck two trees and flipped onto its side.  The roof of the truck was crushed upon impacting one of the trees.  Carmichael was declared deceased on-scene.  He was wearing a seatbelt.  Neither speed nor impairment appear to be a factor at this time.
