Woman sexually battered by fake cop in Clearwater

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

Clearwater Police detectives are asking for the public's help in finding a man who sexually battered a woman early this morning after implying he was a law enforcement officer.

The 35-year-old woman told police she was walking in the 1800 block of North Highland Avenue about 2 a.m. when she was approached by a man in a newer, red, two-door truck.  He showed her a badge and had handcuffs hanging from the rear-view mirror.

Authorities say she got into the truck after he told her she was in trouble. The woman told authorities that the man groped her in the truck, and did the same once he had her exit the vehicle.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 40 years old, wearing dark uniform-like clothing, but with no patches visible.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Clearwater police at (727) 562-4242.
