LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

Interstate 4 was closed for about four hours near Kathleen Road in Lakeland area Wednesday morning due to debris and fuel on the roadway after two crashes involving a FedEx semi tractor trailer.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene. They told us a FedEx semi tractor trailer was near the Kathleen Road exit when it hit a guardrail.

On impact the semi smashed into a railroad support pier for the railroad overpass by the exit. The packages fell out on the road. The driver Miguer Angel Martes Manzano, 39, of Tampa didn't sustain any injuries.

After the troopers blocked off the road to investigate the accident, another semi tractor trailer driven by Roberto Alejo Garcia, 49, of Tampa, couldn't slow down for the stopped traffic fast enough. He lost control of the trailer, it crashed into a guardrail and jack-knifed.

The second trailer's passenger side saddle tank was pierced and about 100 to 150 gallons of fuel spilled on the roadway and shoulder, according to the FHP report.

The second driver got minor injuries. The FHP troopers continue to investigate the accidents. They havent pressed any charged yet.
