UNICOI COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

A Unicoi County man charged with raping an underage boy called the 17-year-old "sweety" (sic) and "Big Boy" in text messages sent to the teen, according to federal court records. Those records, filed last week in U.S. District Court in Greeneville, also reveal the man repeatedly told the boy "I love you".

40-year-old Rickie Lee Hoyle, Jr. is charged with several crimes, including aggravated statutory rape, sexual battery by an authority figure and solicitation of a person under 18 years of age. He also faces a federal charge. In U.S. District Court he's charged with inducing a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.

According to that federal complaint, Hoyle first contacted the teen through Facebook in June 2012, sending "a sexually inappropriate remark." As a result, "Victim #1 blocked the transmission of any more messages from Hoyle."

According to the TBI, that didn't stop Hoyle, who then started contacting the boy on Facebook using a different name, acting as Hoyle's cousin and convincing the teen Hoyle "was cool."

"Victim #1 later accepted Hoyle as a 'Friend' on Facebook and then provided Hoyle his cellular telephone number," the complaint states.

The two eventually met for the first time in September or October 2012 at the Mall at Johnson City, the complaint states. After that brief meeting, Hoyle "began meeting Victim #1 in the parking lot of Victim #1's residence in Erwin, Tennessee, the Johnson City Mall...and at the McDonalds Restaurant in Erwin."

In January 2013 Hoyle drove the boy home in his car and inappropriately touched the boy on his leg and groin area, the complaint states.

"This happened several times, even though Victim #1 told Hoyle to stop, Hoyle promised to stop, and did in fact stop the inappropriate touching," the complaint states.

In May 2013, the TBI says Hoyle offered to a perform a sex act in return for $200. However, the TBI reports Hoyle did not give the teen the $200 after the boy allowed him to perform a sex act on him.

The Erwin Police Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested Hoyle last week during a sting operation in the parking lot of the Unicoi County Wal-Mart.

According to court records, agents confiscated two of Hoyle's cell phones from his home, which contained thousands of text messages involving Hoyle and the teen.

"The messages Hoyle sent Victim #1 include repeated statements from Hoyle that 'I love you;' often refers to Victim #1 as 'Big Boy', overtly mentions money that Hoyle has given or will give to Victim #1; often refers to a third person and expresses Hoyle's jealousy of the time Victim #1 spends with the third person in lieu of Hoyle; involves contacts starting early in the morning and continuing throughout the day; and involves advice by Hoyle how Victim #1 can conceal their meetings and their conversations," the complaint states.

The TBI agent who filed the complaint said "this type of behavior, as well as the repeated touching of Victim #1's leg and groin, are consistent with a person who is grooming a minor for illegal sexual activity."

All of the charges Hoyle currently faces are linked to this one alleged victim, according to Erwin Police Chief Regan Tilson. However, Chief Tilson says there may be more than just one victim. He says police continue to investigate that possibility.

"It is an ongoing investigation and there is a possibility that there are others," Chief Tilson said. "There is the potential for more charges."
