Tampa skyline about to change

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

PNC Bank announced Thursday they are moving into downtown Tampa which will change the Tampa skyline.

The bank is relocating its Tampa headquarters from Bay Center Drive to One Tampa City Center.  The bank officials announced last fall they had signed a multi-year lease with the center.

The first phase of the move will be to put up 12 feet wide sign with 9 feet tall energy-efficient LED illuminated letters on top of the facade of the center.

"We're looking forward to becoming an even more integral part of the Tampa community with this new location," said Joseph Meterchick, PNC regional president, Florida West. "Adding our name to the building ... provides us with increased visibility in one of the most high traffic sections of downtown."

The bank will take up the entire 15 floor of the 38-story building. The bank representatives said they would start renovating the office space on the floor this fall to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Certification for commercial interiors.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is a program that provides third-party verification for green buildings, according to the USGBC website.

Tampa City Center is the first office building to achieve LEED Gold certification, PNC Bank representatives mentioned.
