TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Wednesday, Humana Inc. announced plans to add more than 170 jobs to its fulltime telesales workforce in Tampa Bay.

The 170 new jobs will support Humana's Direct Marketing Services (DMS) call center at NetPark, 5701 E Hillsborough Ave., in East Tampa. The telesales positions will provide national phone sales and enrollment assistance for Humana's Medicare benefit plans and senior products as well as individual health and specialty products. These positions will directly handle inquiries and provide guidance to develop comprehensive benefit solutions for new and existing Humana members nationwide.

These positions in Tampa Bay are part of more than 500 telesales and client service specialist jobs that Humana is adding there and to its other DMS call centers in Madison, Wis.; Miramar, Fla; Phoenix; and San Antonio. Humana is adding these jobs in order to meet the demand of the upcoming annual Medicare open enrollment period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, 2013.

"These new jobs will ensure that we are well positioned to offer world class enrollment support to the Medicare beneficiaries and those seeking enrollment assistance for individual health plans," said Khursheed Zafar, vice president of Direct Marketing Services for Humana. "We're pleased that acting on our mission of helping people achieve lifelong well-being is leading to more job opportunities in Tampa Bay."

"When a company such as Humana is expanding in Florida that's a good sign," said U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson "And these jobs will help folks in both Tampa and Miramar."

Currently, Humana employs more than 3,000 associates in the Bay area; nearly 6,000 in Florida; and, approximately 49,000 associates nationally, including subsidiary companies. Humana's national chronic care program, based in St. Petersburg, recently announced it will be hiring 100 health coaches and telephonic nurses in the bay area over the next six months.

Humana has two national call centers located at NetPark in East Tampa. The DMS Medicare telesales currently employs about 500 associates, while a national customer service call center has approximately 450 associates.

Humana is seeking to fill these positions immediately, with starting dates ranging from June 3 to July 15. To apply online, visit http://careers.humana.com.
