BP employee Fadi Alyasin remembers the frantic, screaming man, identified as James Minyard, who came to the station Tuesday pleading that he call 9-1-1. "When we called the 911, they ask us what happened to him.  So they have to know.  We asked him what happened, he said he was playing with fire crackers or some things, and blowing his hand."

Tampa Police said it was no firecracker.

They said it was a homemade bomb, like the one they found nearby on Sligh Avenue.

The blast ripped the tip off Minyard's middle and ring finger.

It also made police curious about more bombs.

Tampa police investigators say they spent 16 hours going through Minyard's house.  They say in the back, he had a small workshop where bombs were constructed.  Inside there were four more explosives plus chemicals.

They say Minyard admits, he did it just to prove he can, using the Internet as a guide. "There was no set plan. He was going to explode them and more for recreation around the house according to his statement" said Tampa Police Sergeant Bill Todd.   Police say Minyard had no intention to hurt anybody. "The types of homemade explosives that he was making are very dangerous and very volatile" said Tampa bomb squad Sergeant Jarrett Seal. How Minyard blew off his fingers is still a big question, but doing so exposed his big secret.
