No bond for Citrus mom accused of killing child

Posted: Updated:

21-year-old Chelsea Huggett made her first appearance in front of a Citrus County Judge early Friday.

Huggett is charged with aggravated child abuse and murder for the death of her own daughter.

The Citrus County Sheriff's office says Huggett violently shook her daughter, two-year-old Aliyah Marie Branum, on Friday, April 26, and fractured her skull.

The Sheriff's Office says she fractured the little girl's skull because she was whining, and would not stop trying to crawl on her.

Neighbor Nicholas Edmonds says he worked at the same store with Huggett, but didn't think much of her.

"Honestly she was kind of weird," says Edmonds.

Edmonds was so concerned about problems in the Huggett home, he would not allow his young brother to play there with other children.

Edmonds says, "There's always been shady stuff that goes on. At nighttime, you always hear screaming. There is always fighting and stuff."

The Florida Department of Children and Families says they visited Huggett's home on two occasions after people complained about living conditions there.

DCF says they could find no obvious signs of abuse at that time.  Officials have not removed two other children from the residence.

DCF also says Huggett is pregnant with another child, and they plan to meet to discuss removing that child from Huggett after birth.
