TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The USF Sun Dome arena located on campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa turned one year old on Wednesday, and the first year has been proven successful for the facility.

"Throughout the successful completion of a comprehensive arena renovation project, the University of South Florida has shown great foresight and leadership in positioning the USF Sun Dome to have long term success," said Trent Merritt, General Manager of the USF Sun Dome.  "Today we celebrate a great first year, thanks to all of our fans and we look forward to an even better second year!"

Managed by Global Spectrum, the Sun Dome opened in September 2012 after $35.6 million renovation. The opening event was Elton John's concert. The event was sold out.

The Dome has hosted exciting guests and shows this year, including Florence + the Machine, The King's Men Tour, Sesame Street's Elmo and MythBusters. Over 225,000 people attended the arena this year.

USF's men's and women's basketball teams call the Sun Dome home.

The Dome together with Global Spectrum which manages 115 public assembly facilities all over the world, partnered with Metropolitan Ministries, Big Cat Rescue, The Shriners Children's Hospital, Children's Dream Fund and the Humane Society of Pinellas County for various community outreach projects.
