TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The Tampa Police Department reports that it is searching for a suspect who attempted to sexually batter a woman while she was doing laundry at the Tampa Coin Laundromat located at 5814 North 40th Street in Tampa.

Officers say the victim was outside smoking a cigarette at about 2:08 a.m. Monday morning when an unidentified black male appeared from behind a nearby dumpster. The victim went back inside and the suspect came up behind her, tackled her to the ground and tried to sexually assault her. The victim reported that she believes that the suspect was armed with a sharp weapon.  Officers say she was able to fight the suspect off of her and he ran away from the scene.

Tampa Police officers arrived at the location and started an extensive search for the suspect, which included K-9 teams and Air Service.  Authorities say the search for the suspect is on-going.

The victim described the suspect as a dark-skin black male about 25-30 years old.  The suspect was reported wearing a faded black t-shirt, ski mask w/holes for the eyes, without pants.

Anyone who has information about this crime is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
