Haines City police looking for man in connection with officer-involved shooting

HAINES CITY, FL (WFLA) -

The Haines City Police issued an arrest warrant for the man who they believed, participated in a fight at a BP gas station Sunday in Haines City where a police officer had to fire at an armed suspect.

Authorities charged Timothy Tyrone Bodison, 32 with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and resisting an officer with and without violence.

On Sunday at approximately 12:16 a.m., officers responded to a call of a fight at the BP Gas Station located at 95 Hwy 17-92 West in Haines City.

Upon arrival, officers identified a vehicle that was potentially involved in the fight, and the officers ordered the passengers out of the vehicle. Police say the driver of the vehicle appeared to be complying with the orders of the officers, and he raised his hands in the air while inside the vehicle.

However, the front seat passenger, police say, refused to comply, and produced a handgun.   A sergeant at the scene fired one round toward the armed suspect, and the vehicle immediately fled the parking lot, striking the sergeant as it was leaving.

After a brief pursuit, the driver of the vehicle was apprehended in the parking lot of the Publix Supermarket on Hwy 17-92 West. Police identified him as Maurice Anthony Lynch, 34. Police say the passenger, who was in possession of the handgun, fled from the vehicle on foot and has not been located.

Polk County Sheriff's Office helicopter and canine helped in the search for the suspect.  The sergeant who was hit as the car fled was not injured. The State Attorney's Office also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Detectives ask anyone with information on this incident to contact Detective Hinson with the Haines City Police Department at (863)421-3636.  They consider Bodison armed and dangerous.
