SARASOTA COUNTY, FL -
A Sarasota County school has received a notable honor.

Pine View School in Osprey, FL has been ranked by US News & World Report as the number 6 High school in the country.

The publication evaluated more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia.

Pine View is the only Florida school to make it the top 10.

US News and World Report recognized for Pine View for its unique curriculum and for its ability to prepare students for college.

English teacher Nicole Light said: "The challenges that we face are different because we have different expectations for our kids. We know where we want them to be so we have to work very hard to create curriculums that are rigorous."

12th grader Arjun Byju started attending the school in 2nd grade. After he graduates, he's off to Harvard.

"I definitely feel that other schools can provide great educational learning environments but I think the one at Pine View is unique," Byju said.

In order to get into this 2nd through 12th grade school, you have to take an IQ test and take difficult coursework.

"I'm taking this year differential equations and multi-variable calculus," said Byju. "I was able to experience some of the workload and some of the lectures and discussions that we would see in college."

Principal Steve Largo said there's a different caliber of student at his school.

Largo said, "[The students are] academically motivated, academically focused. They're serious about their education."

He says this ranking is rewarding, and can attract future students.  Many at Pine View admit, this latest prestige was earned by a team effort.

Light said, "I'd say that there is just as much a commitment on the part of the kids to be here and to work hard as there are on the teachers as well."
