TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Jury selection has begun for the first of two trials a Tampa man will face in connection with a deadly shooting at a Hillsborough County party.

Deputies say on July 30, 2011, Tyrell Bragg, 23, was kicked out of a party on Highway 41.  Officials say he grabbed a gun, came back, and fired into the crowd, killing Iesha Washington, 18.  Family members say she had just been baptized the week prior.

Bragg is charged with second degree murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.  Monday, jury selection began for the trial on the firearm charge.

The mother of Iesha Washington, Vanessa Scott, said Monday, "It has not been easy. There's nothing about losing a child that's easy."

Washington's mother battles everyday with a reality she never wanted.

Scott said, "Someday I don't even understand what I'm feeling. I know that my daughter is gone already, but it doesn't even seem like it. It seems likes she's just away on a trip."

The family is determined to go through the whole legal process: through this trial, and a murder trial once it's scheduled.

Washington's uncle, Harold Scott said, "We need to release this and I think that coming to trial and being down here and seeing the finishing, and the decision being made, it will bring a lot of closure."

The judge expects this trial to be wrapped up before the end of the week. A trial date for the murder charge has not been set yet.

During the night of the shooting, there was another victim, 22-year-old Craig Thompson.  Deputies determined he was killing by a separate gunman.

No arrests have been made.
