Parkinson's information in Hillsborough County public libraries

Posted: Updated:
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month and a Tampa woman has teamed up with the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System to bring more information about Parkinson's to as many people as possible.

Linda Giorgilli Rice worked with library officials to get displays with pamphlets about Parkinson's at 10 of the county's 25 libraries. There is information about the disease for people to take and information available for checkout.

Rice said her father's death is the motivation for what she does. "It's going to be four years, the anniversary of his death," Rice said.

She didn't know about all the resources available when she was taking care of her father. That's why she wants to make them available to others.

"I've been an advocate since I lost him. When I was taking care of him,  I didn't know about all the resources available," she said.

Rice is also raising money  through a Unity Walk in New York's Central Park. The 1.4 mile walk is Saturday April 27th. Although Rice won't participate, she is raising money and 100% of all the funds raised will go toward research. The walk has taken place for 19 years.
